Hoop Season Is Here!! San Francisco, CA Talent
Attempting to blog throughout this 2018-19 season… In the past there have been countless events that I sometimes wish I could look back on & see where/what my mind was going through at the moment. So instead of reminiscing about them days from back then, the focus will be on the experience at hand from Jorge(AKA me, George). I’ll be blogging about my analysis of games I film, things learned, and random stuff from time to time.
Hopefully I’ll pull it off, we’ll see.
FIRST 3 DAYS OF THE SEASON IS THE FIRST 3 GAMES OF THE SEASON
Off to go check out Nigel Burris. 6’4” ish looking kid, class of 2021, attends Stuart Hall HS located in San Francisco, CA. He was a player I saw last year hit a bunch of shots against Riordan as a freshman in a close game. I headed out to Saint Ignatius for their scrimmage against, Saint Ignatius lol.
Here’s an in-depth highlight video of Nigel from that night.
Nigel has improved his scoring ability, has some nice moves & pulls up off the dribble well. He’s deadly with the catch & shoot, can drive hard to the rack with his right, push the ball up after a rebound and is able to make solid passes. While he's becoming exquisite on the offensive end, I do question him on the defensive end because his presence wasn’t felt there. Maybe he’ll get it going there later on. We’ll see.

Nigel as a freshman vs Riordan
I came to check out another 2021 kid Jaden Roan but, it was her team who caught my attention that night. Burton HS of San Francisco, CA.
This Burton team is REALLY small lol despite that, they could score the ball pretty well. BUT THEY HAD MAJOR PROBLEMS rebounding & maintaining composure against ball pressure. They gave up 18 second chance points, 8 third chance points, 2 fourth chance points & 12 points off turnovers… In total, 40 points. They lost the game 60-69.
Here’s a video of their opponent Ygnacio Valley scoring 40 points from what was mentioned above.
Overall I felt is was a good loss for Burton. Starting the season off with seeing what their biggest weaknesses are. Size, effort & composure. There’s nothing they can do with the size problem but, if their effort level goes way up & if they can learn how to keep their composure throughout the game… This team can make a good run at the end of the season. We’ll see.
Burton highlights/shot selection
So this is a team I will focus a lot on throughout this season. Riordan HS. There’s been some buzz about them in the off season with transfers being able to play this year & a strong core coming back from last year. But no team ever starts off as the champions of the current season, so let’s see how they come out in their first game.
Riordan would be without their transfers Bryce Monroe(Sits out until January) and Chan Mayuot(Injury, out for season). This was a foundation game against Jefferson HS.
Game was cancelled due to the air quality. So we’ll see what’s up with Riordan later on.
Hoping for everyone who’s effected by the fire and fighting it to be safe right now and well after this is over.
In the meantime here’s a preview of what’s to come from the Riordan backcourt in January.
